They are renowned for being exceptionally relaxed, active, sensitive, and independent. Nevertheless, they demonstrate their zest for life through close and frequent contact with their owner. The Pharaoh Hound, an ancient “Blushing Dog” from Malta, is both elegant and rugged. Bred to course small game over punishing terrain, this hound is quick and tenacious on scent. Moreover, these friendly and affectionate hounds settle down nicely at home.
Known as the Kelb tal-Fenek, which translates to “rabbit dog,” they were traditionally bred to hunt rabbits over the rocky terrain of Malta. In addition to their impressive hunting prowess, these dogs are also celebrated for their loyalty and affectionate nature. Furthermore, they possess several distinguishing traits, such as a tight tan coat with matching leather on the nose, ears, and eye rims. Their ravishing amber eyes, white-tipped tail, ability to smile, and unique way of blushing when happy or excited further set them apart.
