German shepherd or Alsatian is one of the most popular dog breeds in the world. They are highly agile and very good looking. German Shepherds are highly intelligent dog breed and are mostly recruited in the police and armed forces.

Max von Stephanitz created this royal dog in 1889 in Germany. The idea behind creating this type of dog is have a working dog that was intelligent, strong, loyal and protective. These instincts made GSD one of the most popular dog breed in the world.

A common myth among people is that German shepherd are bred from wolves, but that is not correct. These are a soft hearted breed who are so loyal that they will die protecting their family member or owners. They consider their human companion as their family and will do anything for them. This makes them perfect family dogs.

Due to their heightened intelligence, they can be easily trained. They can be perfect guard dogs! They have a very strong mouth grip and their scissor grip is only second to Rottweiler. They are very strong dogs; in fact they are one of the strongest dog breeds in the world right now.

These dogs are highly loyal and very protective, so you may have to put up a sign like “beware of dogs” to alarm strangers. They are average barkers can this habit can be managed with proper training. They require a lot of exercise. They are very good with children and you can bet that they will keep your children safe. They are perfect jogging partners!

Training & Intelligence
They can be trained easily but proper dedication is required. They are highly intelligent, which is one of the main reasons why they are so popular with police and armed forces. They have the ability to outsmart humans as well. There basic training should include easy commands such as ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘come’ and ‘stay’. For working dogs training, they can be taught to identify objects by sniffing. They an exceptional sense of smell and this ability makes them highly observant of scents.
